Lantau Island is the largest outlying island in Hong Kong, almost twice the size of Hong Kong Island. It has become much more accessible due to the fact that the new airport was built by it on reclaimed land. To get there and back we took the subway, the pictured tram, a couple of buses and the ferry. This tram was completed in the fall of 2007. A few weeks before this, one of the cars fell off the cable. We heard about it after our trip. Oh, well....we made it.
The 85 foot Big Buddha...largest in the world. The Chinese think big! You can see it sitting on the top of the mountain from miles away.
It took 3 years to build the Buddha in the late 1980's. It was cast in 202 pieces in a factory in mainland China. Spence loved the steep stairway leading to it. This picture doesn't do it justice.

Whoa! A car fell off the cable?? It's probably a good thing you didn't know that before you went on it.
So is this were you went after I talked to you? Man, I just cleaned the house...how unexciting.
