Other Lantau Island Attractions

Located near the big Buddha is the Po Lin Monastery. Beautiful and ornate.
A little farther down the trail is "The Wisdom Path." It's an outdoor wooden replica of one of the prayers that is revered by Confucians, Buddhists and Taoists. It has been erected in the form of the symbol for infinity...a sideways figure 8.
Ornate carvings cover the roof of Temples in even small towns. This one is in Tai O, a village located on the southwestern shore of Lantau Island and connected to another tiny island by a 50 foot bridge.
This is how the people live in the small fishing village of Tai O. The people make a living from fishing and trading salt with China. During the late 1980's and early 1990's, Tai O earned some notoriety as a smuggling port. Televisions and other electronic equipment were loaded onto creaking barges for the short haul to Chinese waters.
After another bus ride we boarded a ferry at Discovery Bay to return to Hong Kong Island.
