The Wedding Party - The missionary sisters were fortunate to be invited to a wedding celebration for the daughter of one of the Chinese employees at our office. We found that there are many similarities between US and Asian weddings. First of all, you can't have a wedding without pictures! These were taken at a dinner the night before the ceremony. The bride is dressed in a traditional Chinese dress and her new mother-in-law (Korean) is dressed in traditional Korean dress. (Note their name tags....they are currently serving as missionaries in Pusan, Korea, and were given a few days off to attend their son's wedding.)
Everyone at the dinner has their pictures taken! Here are the missionary sisters with the cute little bridesmaids who are also dressed in traditional Chinese wedding clothes.
At the tea ceremony, held before dinner, the couple kneels before parents, inlaws and grandparents one by one, who give them advice. They then have a cup of chrysanthemum tea together.
Everyone enjoys a 10 course dinner of traditional Chinese food (more on that later) and during the meal the bride changes clothes and hairstyles 3 times and walks among the tables greeting and thanking guests. Her first dress was traditional Chinese, the second traditional Korean (like her mother-in-law) and this was her final dress.The couple will be married the next day in a civil ceremony (Chinese law) and after that they will be sealed in the Hong Kong Temple. A reception will follow. It was a very joyous occasion for everyone!

Wow! That dress comes in life size? I think I had that dress for one of my Barbies back in the day. :)
